Characteristics Of Unhealthy Highs:
- Escape From Reality
- Direct – not processed through thinking & evaluation for appropriateness
- Deception - Anchored in lies, not reality; Wishes, not Reality or Hopes; commitment to self-deception (*much of entertainment & recreation)
- Indulgence, not celebration
- No boundaries (one def of addiction is bonding w/out boundaries)
- Distortion Blocks ability to perceive & respond appropriately to changes in reality
- Wrong Focus (not God) Phil 3:19 ‘god is their belly, mind earthly things’ practical atheists
Characteristics Of A Healthy High:
- Celebration Of Reality
- Conscious Control; processed though our mind [Boundaries: time, respect, restraint]
- Connected To Reality: Our Real Life Situations; how things really are
- Shalom in celebration mode
- -Circumstances, Physical, Relational, Spiritual, Inner Enjoyment
- Healthy Bonding with healthy boundaries
- God-Centered
Verses:
- Ga 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
- Eph 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
